Job Description: Raytheon is seeking a candidate to join the Launch & Checkout System DCS Software Maintenance team within the Transition IPT on the Global Positioning System Advanced Control Segment (GPS OCX) Program. The candidate must have experience and knowledge with software engineering using object oriented methodologies. The candidate will work closely in a team environment with software and systems engineers, integrators, testers, and customers to design, code, test, & deliver new/modified functionality, while following program & campus processes for all aspects of software development. SW development is done primarily in C++ & Java. This individual will be responsible for analyzing the software support needs of the mission, as well as the existing processes and tools being used in development. This individual will then recommend, plan, and implement an approach for performing all software maintenance activities during LCS operations. These activities include software defect workoff, software build, package and deploy activities, and real-time anomaly resolution support. This role will participate in the support and operations phase of the program life cycle by providing software development across a team comprised of engineers and leads from a multi-contractor team. Responsibilities and scope also include: Key responsibilities for the qualified candidate include: • Ability to design, develop, integrate and maintain new software functionality • Ability to work with previously written code and make modifications as necessary • Ability to work closely with other disciplines (systems, networking, IS, configuration management, and test engineers) to troubleshoot and fix problems • Enthusiastic and energetic performer able to work in a dynamic, fast paced, and sometimes pressured environment • Team player incorporating a team based success philosophy • Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of his/her immediate supervisor • Communication of complex and diverse engineering topics • Ability to follow established SW processes and procedures, development, documentation and maintenance/management of operations concepts, requirements (system, element, segment level), external and internal interfaces, and other software engineering work products/artifacts • Provide mentoring for junior engineers • Operate under minimal supervision; guidance received relates primarily to general objectives Required Skills: • United States Citizen • Minimum 8+ years working experience in object-oriented software design & development using C++ and/ or Java • Must have experience with Linux, the STS/Eclipse IDE and XML • Software & system-level debugging experience including the ability to identify problems in established code & make modifications as necessary • Software and system-level debugging experience including the ability to identify problems in established code and make modifications as necessary • Experience with software execution throughout the entire software life cycle (preliminary design through maintenance phases) • 8+ years experience working with Unix/Linux OS based development • 8+ years experience working with Microsoft Windows OS based development • Experience with UML design modeling in modeling tools such as Rational Rose, RSA, or Rhapsody • Experience in applying technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques to solve problems • Self-motivated and capable of performing tasks with limited oversight Desired Skills/Knowledge: • Six Sigma tools and techniques • Experience and knowledge related to Satellite Ground Systems and Ground System Operations • Experience and knowledge related to Satellite Operations • Experience and knowledge related to software discipline process development and deployment • Experience with customer interaction and end-user engagement • Experience integrating software (modules, components, subsystems) • Experience preparing and presenting status information and technical material • Familiarity working with other engineering disciplines (systems, HW, test, configuration management, and quality engineering) & knowledge of how they interact with the software engineering discipline • Experience in the development and review of software development and maintenance processes • Experience with the GPS OCX program and OCX development methodologies. • Experience with ClearCase, Jenkins, and Chef Required Education (including Major): B.S./B.A. in Aerospace Engineering, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math and 8 years relevant work experience. 16 years relevant experience can be used In lieu of a degree.
