Supporting the Most Exciting and Meaningful Missions in the World Power Plant MechanicSummary:GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):Maintains a safe workplace programand ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.Complies withall ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management andQuality Assurance requirements, goals, policies and procedures. Providesdocumentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legaldocumentation. Performs preventive maintenance on primary Power Plantgenerators and various emergency generators.Performs on-sitetroubleshooting, repairs and overhauls of generator engines.Responds tostation power outages and equipment failures as required.Willingness to carrya radio or pager for after hour's call out'sCompletes maintenance recordsand documents all maintenance performed and maintains operating logbooks anddatabases as required.Schedules diesel engine/generator operations in orderto maintain a 3000-hour spread between engines.Operates Power Plant equipmentin an efficient and economical manner.Coordinates with the Power &WaterSupervisor in ordering repair and/or spare parts, maintenance parts,assemblies and consumables.Maintains control of plant tools, manuals,repair parts, assemblies and consumables. Maintains inventory accuracy at98% or better.Ability to work alone or within a team depending onsituation.Trains Power Plant Operator's on mechanical equipment asdirected.Ability to cover Power Plant Operator shift / rounds asrequired.Advises the Power & Water Supervisor of the status of powerproduction equipment and systems.Complies with applicable Safety,Environment, Health, and Waste Management policies and procedures.Supportsthe achievement of PAE and ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly orindirectly affected by this position's work activities.Complies with allEnvironmental Safety and Health and Quality Assurance requirements and goals.PREQUIREMENTS:High school graduate or GED is required.Minimum three (3)years' experience required in diesel powered generators, marine dieselengines, or industrial diesel engines.Mechanical aptitude with the abilityto handle multiple tasks at once is required. Thorough knowledge of theprinciples and practices applied in the maintenance and repair of dieselelectric generating equipment is required.Thorough knowledge of the methods,hazards, and safety precautions related to diesel engines and diesel enginedriven electric generators is required.Ability to maintain a professionalattitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment isrequired.Previous mechanical experience on 1MW and larger dieselengine/generators is highly preferred.Previous Field Service experience ishighly preferred.Experience with Caterpillar documentation and software(ET, SIS) is preferredWorking comprehension of electricaldistribution, control panels and medium voltage switchgear is preferred.Mustbe proficient in Microsoft Office.Training, certification or experience onCaterpillar 3500 / 3600 series engines is preferredExperience working withremote field generators is preferred.Willingness and ability to deploy toAntarctica for extended periods is required.Must be willing and able to liftand move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safetyregulation maximum.Must be willing and able to perform physical activitiesincluding heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, andworking outdoors.Must successfully complete the physical, dental andpsychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF fordeploying to Antarctica.Must participate in community programs, such as"house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (cleaning-up aroundthe station), recycling efforts and safety objectives.US citizenship orPermaneEEO is the Law PosterAn Equal Opportunity Employer.
