The RN first assistant is an employee of the Memorial Health System perioperative services division who will act as first or second assistant to the surgeon during those procedures which require an assistant. The RN first assistant will at all times act under the direct supervision of the surgeon, performing only those functions within his/her scope of practice. The RN first assistant does not function concurrently as a scrub nurse.
Provides professional nursing care within the health system and coordinates plan of care with the patient and family in collaboration with other disciplines. Is a role model of professional nursing practice; participates in orientation and training of new personnel and students to unit.
Minimum Education:Graduation from a school of nursing. Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado. BLS certified. Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR).
Minimum Experience:At least 5 years OR (Surgery) experience. Demonstrate expertise in both the circulating nurse and scrub nurse role. Must have completed RNFA program.
Strength (Medium Work): Exerting 20 to 50 lbs of force occasionally, to 10 to 25 lbs of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
