Lifeline Vascular Access (“Lifeline”) is a Strategic Business Initiative (“SBI”) of DaVita Inc. Lifeline works with premier physician practices to develop and manage outpatient centers that primarily provide focused and coordinated vascular access procedures to patients receiving hemodialysis treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.

  • Reports to the SBI Compliance Director and serves as member of the Corporate Compliance Leadership Team;

  • Lead the quarterly compliance committee meeting with the Lifeline leadership team and legal counsel;

  • Partners and collaborates with Lifeline leadership and legal counsel to develop compliance infrastructure and guidance on all new and current initiatives;

  • Support the Lifeline Leadership Team as new growth strategies are developed;

  • Manages a team to create, implement and oversee a robust compliance program including:

  • Conducting annual risk assessment;

  • Develop, draft and implement effective policies, procedures and processes for the establishment and continued improvement of Lifeline’s effective compliance programs.

  • Developing effective lines of communications and promote strong, compliant “Tone From the Top”;

  • Creating and conducting targeted compliance training;

  • Creating and implement compliance monitoring;

  • Effectively evaluate the controls in place to mitigate compliance risks for the determination of additional controls. This will include the development of a robust monitoring program and the use of data to track and trend;

  • Partnering with compliance audit team to develop Lifeline’s annual audit plan; and

  • Responding promptly to monitoring and audit results and Lifeline investigations to undertake corrective action, as needed.

  • Responds to, or oversees responses to, compliance-related inquiries;

  • Represents compliance at various Lifeline leadership meetings;

  • Partners with other directors in Corporate Compliance to manage larger compliance team (100+ employees);

  • Develops and manages project plans for all Lifeline compliance program activities;

  • Manages performance and talent planning for direct reports; and

  • Travel required: 25%

Here's what you can expect as a Director at DaVita:

This position is responsible for overseeing Lifeline’s successful execution of its compliance program surrounding Vascular Access Centers and Ambulatory Surgery Centers. The Compliance Director will apply previously acquired management, project, analytical, organization, health care compliance, and communication skills to immediately add value to existing and new compliance activities. The position requires the use of critical thinking, issue spotting, and prior health care regulatory and compliance experience. Particular areas of focus include running a team that supports the continued development of a robust compliance program, including the management of the Lifeline Compliance Committee, development of policies and procedures, creation and implementation of training programs and developing a monitoring program amongst other compliance-related activities. Areas of expertise should include the ability to collaborate with the Lifeline business, to effectively communicate across various departments internally and externally, ability to understand contractual arrangements, and manage competing priorities related to healthcare compliance and the regulatory environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD/MBA/CPA/CIA or other relevant advanced degree or certification preferred;

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience as a legal or compliance professional responsible for the development, implementation and/or sustaining of an effective compliance program;

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industries dealing with federal healthcare program laws including, but not limited to Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Stark Law, and Civil Monetary Penalty Law;

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with detailed Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations and guidance including, but not limited to Medicare Program Integrity Manuals;

  • Preferred experience working with Vascular Access Centers and/or Ambulatory Surgery Centers;

  • Preferred experience dealing with Medicare billing and coding requirements, and coding monitoring and audit programs;

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with demonstrated attention to detail;

  • A superior people manager, expert at selecting, managing, and maximizing direct reports and team;

  • Demonstrated executive level presentation experience;

  • Experience in positively and successfully managing relationships with a high energy and diverse group of leaders across organizational lines;

  • Solid technology skills utilizing Microsoft Work, Excel, and PowerPoint;

  • A thoughtful, articulate and effective communicator who can distill and articulate the important aspects of any issue to a wide audience of participants;

  • Ability to quickly establish credibility and expert at quickly creating trusted advisor relationships with senior leadership to navigate complex matters;

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills (including presentations) and the ability to drive execution in a team environment;

  • Must be self-motivated, team player with proven ability to identify issues and manage priorities in a fast paced environment while striving for practical business solutions; and

  • Hands on, efficient and proven ability to “Get Stuff Done” with a bias for action and a strong sense of ownership.
