General SummaryTo observe and learn techniques within a laboratory setting.Essential Responsibilities1. To observe procedures and techniques unique to specific jobs and tasks.2. Assist Laboratory Researchers with routine lab procedures such as datacollection, sterilization of equipment and preparation of routine laboratorysolutions.3. Stock and inventory laboratory supplies.4. Pick up and deliver materials and supplies.5. Maintains compliance with all institutional / safety trainingrequirements.6. Answers phones and screens calls, refers calls or messages, arrangesappointments, greets visitors, and performs associated clerical duties.7. Enters data or performs related computer data entry.8. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and goodcustomer service skills.9. Performs all other duties as assigned.General Responsibilities1. Performs, as directed, safety compliance and uses PersonalProtective Equipment (PPE), as needed.2. Participates in Quality Assessment (QA) and Quality Improvement(QI) programs, as directed.3. Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission and all other Federal,State and Regulatory Agencies.4. Responds promptly and sincerely to customer's needs, requests andconcerns via all communication forms using easily understood language andrefraining from using inappropriate language and non-verbal gestures.5. Maintains positive working relationships as a team player throughproblem solving issues, speaking positively about others, listeningattentively and observing the Patient Bill of Rights and Confidentiality.6. Increases customer service knowledge, skill and ability byparticipating in department and institution-wide specific programs.7. Incorporates National Jewish's identity (Science TransformingLife ) into daily functions. Speaks positively about the institution,provides customers with prompt service, maintains a clean and safe workingenvironment, dresses appropriately based upon National Jewish safetystandards, and departmental policies and wears an ID badge visibly.Knowledge and SkillsKnowledge of basic laboratory equipment preferred.EducationCompletion of Employment Application, initial and placement interviews,references, on-line safety training and attends portions of "New HireOrientation".Certifications and LicensureNoneWork ExperienceNone- or - Any equivalent combination of Education and/or ExperienceWorking ConditionsPosition is in a laboratory. Frequent requirements may include: manualdexterity; normal color vision; long periods of standing and sitting,and frequent periods of bending, crouching or stooping; work withradioactive materials, toxic chemicals, biomedical wastes and researchanimals; potential exposure to infectious disease; work aroundelectrical/explosive hazards; work with laboratoryequipment/machinery; and lifting objects weighing 10 to 50 pounds; andextensive repetitive motion of the fingers, arm and wrist. Occasionalrequirements may include: sitting while completing paperwork, kneeling,and squatting. Incumbent may be scheduled to work an alternate schedule toaccommodate essential business needs routine travel by foot or automobile toalternate work/meeting locations, possibly during inclement weather.Environmental ConditionsInside environmental conditions may include: working in laboratories withodors, chemicals and animals; extreme temperatures; electrical;working around hazardous and radioactive substances; working under dirty anddusty conditions. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided toeach employee when needed as determined by policy. Utilization of PPE ismandatory. Estimated 1500 employees in the worksite.
