Platte River Power Authority Telecommunications Technician in Fort Collins, Colorado

The Telecommunication Technician supports Electric Operations servicesincluding, but not limited to, SCADA, protective relaying, DFR, andmeter communications. The Telecommunication Technician is responsible for theconfiguration, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of PlatteRiver s wide-area transport communication equipment, documentation, andsupporting infrastructure. The Telecommunication Technician is alsoresponsible for Platte River s telephone system.Essential Functions: Configure, install, troubleshoot, and maintain Platte River swide-area transport communication and telephone equipment Plan and perform daily work according to departmental work processes andPlatte River project management processes and ensure tasks are completedaccording to schedule Procure materials for daily work and ensure materials arrive on time andwhen needed Monitor task and project costs and perform work within approved budgets Provide good customer service through prompt response, regularcommunication, and completion of work according to agreed upon scope andschedule; coordinate and communicate telecommunication work with PowerSystem Operators, the Outage Coordinator, customers, and other affectedusers of the telecommunication system Oversee and review contractors' telecommunication work to ensure it meetsPlatte River's specifications Participate in the design of telecommunication solutions includingequipment specifications, connectivity, and implementation plans; stayup to date on emerging technology and industry best practices; comply withapplicable NERC Standards Participate as a subject matter expert in telecommunication activities Maintain telecommunication system documentation and labels ontelecommunication system assets; update documentation in a timely manner toreflect changes Operate telecommunication test equipment and evaluate results Monitor and verify telecommunication equipment is performing as designed Maintain tools, test equipment, vehicles, and working areas Ensure the telecommunications equipment complies with Platte River ssecurity policy Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hourstelecommunication incidents Maintains regular & reliable attendance Performs other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications: Three years experience with transport telecommunications or related field Experience configuring and maintaining VoIP or PBX systems Ability to work independently, in small teams, and with larger groupsto plan and carry out assigned tasks Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills Ability to work on small parts in tight spaces and near electrical equipment Good color vision is needed to distinguish wire colors Knowledge and understanding of communication equipment and conceptsincluding: radios, microwave equipment, SONET networks, IP transporttechnologies, digitalmultiplexers, network management systems, fiber optic cable, Ethernetand packet switching systems, 2w, 4w E&M circuits, VOIP and PBX Ability to perform communication system troubleshooting Current valid driver's license and ability to remain insurable underPlatte River's vehicle liability policy Able to perform the physical, mental, and environmental requirements ofthe job s essential functions with or without accommodationsDesired Qualifications: Associate's Degree in telecommunications, networking, or equivalent field Five years or more experience with transport telecommunications or relatedfield Experience with transport telecommunications for an electric utility Understanding of cyber security concepts Knowledge of project management concepts Project Management Professional (PMP) certificationThis position will remain open until filled.Platte River Power Authority is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
