Advanced Engineering Innovation Program - Firmware Engineer

Allegion is committed to developing select engineers in an 18 month developmental program. The program trains engineers in state-of-the-art tools and methodologies. The program is designed for both technical innovators and people leaders and is Allegion’s inaugural talent development program.

We're looking for performance-driven, innovative engineers who understand the importance of collaboration and customer focus. Our engineering development program offers candidates the ability to rapidly ramp up to full productivity by gaining exposure to the business, developing technical and soft skills, and to set a positive platform for future growth, advancement, and success.

The Advanced Engineering Innovation Program will consist of:

  • On-boarding: intensive training on tools and processes and the Allegion business

  • Product Life Cycle Development

  • Innovation Project

  • New Product Development

General assignment details:

  • Assigned to a product development team that is in the planning phase through project completion

  • Learn about project resources, storage and your responsibilities

  • Analyze product requirements associated with your assignment(s)

  • Take responsibility for a subsection of the project, interact with other subsection owners, represent your subsection in design reviews and implement your subsection in accordance with project requirements and Allegion best practices

  • Actively participate in cross-discipline and cross-functional design reviews

  • Actively participate in DFMEAs and other activities that identify failure/risk points

  • Analyze your designs to show robustness, ease of use, ability to manufacture and the tradeoffs that you analyzed when implementing your design

  • Actively engage in the initial integration of your discipline’s design contribution (electrical, firmware, mechanical) and the integration of all pieces of the final product

  • Actively participate in the overall design validation testing

  • Actively participate in the production floor implementation of the product

Firmware Engineering assignment:

  • Assigned to Electronic Lock life cycle Team

  • Practice/training of basic tools and processes

  • Firmware development tools

  • Firmware development practices (configuration management, bug tracking, testing, etc.)

  • Engineering change process

  • Development of critical skills

  • Design, code, testing cycle

  • Robust coding practices

  • Low level processor interaction (understand I/O, memory structure, sleep modes)

  • Debugging of multi-threaded applications

  • In-depth learning of assigned product category

  • Learn how the components of a design and/or product interact

  • Make and execute design changes to existing products

  • Start to finish including analysis, design, coding, unit testing, system testing, and production implementation

  • Customer experience – visit job site as an Engineering Representative and assist with problem solving

  • Spend 2 weeks working in System Test Laboratory validating new firmware release

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science/Engineering

  • Organizational skills

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0

  • Prior engineering internship

  • Demonstrated leadership activities

  • Collaboration skills

  • Effective oral and written communication

  • Task planning skills

  • Troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively

  • Self-motivated problem solver
