Description of Job

  • Manages custodial staff. Develops performance plans and evaluations for employees, issues written warning and corrective actions, and recommends disciplinary action.

  • Develops methods and procedures by which the campus is cleaned based on usage of buildings, either by a team approach or scheduling of areas. Delegates work assignments to classified and student cleaning staff creating a clean and sanitary working, learning, teaching, and research environment while maintaining a safe hazard-free environment.

  • Follows up on assigned duties of classified and student staff through inspections of buildings to ensure assignments are completed to expectations. Completes and records weekly or bi-weekly inspections on all buildings. Manages campus waste and recycling program, including paper delivery to campus departments. Completes and records weekly or bi-weekly inspections on all buildings' waste and recycling; participates in programs such a Recycle Mania involving the measurement of waste.

  • Analyzes work processes, gathers data from building users concerning their satisfaction with building maintenance. Sets and manages budget based on realistic expectations. Employs customer services skills to eliminate barriers between building users and custodians. Recommends alternative processes to satisfy user needs and provides higher quality service by determining when floors need to be stripped and waxed, carpets cleaned, etc.

  • Participates in planning and organizing of special events: athletic events, meetings, commencement, conference services activities, plays, concerts, etc. Acquires upcoming scheduling from building users and anticipates special event needs. Plans special cleaning requirements for down times such as Christmas break, the break between commencement and the start of the conference season, and the break between the end of the conference season and fall semester.

  • Organizes all equipment used in custodial division and assures that all custodial closets are stocked, organized and safe.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Twenty-four months of custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping experience; part-time experience will be prorated. Any work experience that is relevant to the duties of this position as state in the above job description must be CLEARLY SPECIFIED IN THE DUTY SECTION OF CURRENT OR PAST JOBS LISTED ON THE APPLICATION FORM. Substitutions:

Twenty-four months of managerial experience directly supervising, managing, scheduling and disciplining custodial employees in lieu of direct custodial experience may be substituted for the direct custodial experience. Formal custodial training may be substituted on a month for month basis for up to one year of direct custodial experience.
