Read onto learn more!Position OverviewThe Design Manager is responsible for the accurate design of roof and floortrusses, walls and components for single family, multi-family andcommercial projects.Works under general direction of the GMO; exercises discretion and judgmenton work priority on a regular basis; and high degree of creativity isexpected.Principal Duties / ResponsibilitiesDesigns metal plate connected wood trusses and wall panels utilizing MiteksoftwareOptimizes designs for maximum efficiencyReviews orders, layouts and data files for accuracyAssists sales and production with design service and troubleshootingStaffs, develops and coaches the design team, evaluates performance andinitiates corrective action as required.Monitors department output to ensure efficient resource utilization andinitiates corrective action as requiredPrepares various reports as requiredPerforms other duties as requiredQualificationsKnowledgeBachelor degree in related discipline or equivalent experience is requiredMinimum 2 to 5 years of experience in related field/responsibilitiesWorking knowledge and experience using Mitek software is preferredWorking knowledge of floor and rood systems and the ability to spec out beamsand hangarsWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook.Skills and abilitiesProficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing andspeakingAbility to read and understand blue printsStrong math skillsAbility to use a computer terminal, and proficiency of the use of Mitek andother business and design related software.Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and the publicAbility to communicate effectively with others, including customers,peers, and managementAbility to manage several activities/projects at once, to organize andprioritize work, to meet deadlines, to prepare plans, goals and budgets.Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time, be mobile in thework environment, and work hours mandated by management.Ability to pass a drug testConductSelf-managing; works well under little supervisionHighly motivated and enthusiasticGood interpersonal skills and good communicatorBe a team player and support the Company's goals Universal Forest Products and its subsidiaries and affiliates are equalopportunity employers.
