Title: Hazardous Materials InstructorPrimary Duties: The incumbent will provide classroom instruction,supervise field exercises and support for all training programs offeredthrough the Security and Emergency Response Training Center (SERTC).Instructors are expected to be proficient in hazardous materials emergencyresponse for all modes of surface transportation along with flammableliquid/gas firefighting, foam applications, and other applicablefirefighting skills. Those instructors not proficient with all training propsand aides will undergo a cross-training program to acquire requisiteproficiencies. SERTC Instructors include both full time and part timepositionWill provide logistical support for training activities through set up andtake down of training aids. Promote Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)as a professional philosophy when dealing with internal and external customersand fellow employees. Function successfully as a team member. Contribute in apositive manner to accomplish the training team's overall objectives.Perform other duties as assigned.Physical Demands: This work requires walking, standing, bending,sitting and carrying of small packages or containers. Travel to fieldlocations to coordinate training activities may be involved. Work may alsoinvolve considerable physical exertion while demonstrating a variety ofemergency response techniques and methods.Work Environment: The normal work place is a classroom or office, andinside/outside physical exercise areas. Position duties will requireexposure to varying climate and environmental conditions, both cold and warmweather conditions and/or exposure to high levels of noise.Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma Valid Driver s License Excellent reading, writing and oral communication skills Hazardous Materials Operations Certificate Fire Fighter one (1), essentials of Fire Fighting, or equivalent Hydrocarbon Fire Fighting and Foam Applications 2 Years in emergency response 2 Years of experience specific to railroad, highway, and intermodaltransportation 2 Years of experience in public speaking or instruction. Knowledge ofeducation methodology a plus. Incumbent MUST pass Firefighter Fitness for Duty Incumbent MUST live in Colorado and be willing to drive to TTCI /SERTC when assigned. Incumbent must be able to pass a Federal, State and Local back ground check. Maintain certifications in the following areas: HazMat Technician,Firefighter I, Essentials of Firefighting orequivalent, Instructor I and II or equivalent, NIMS/ICS 100, 200,300, 400, 700, and 800. Additional certifications maybe required based on job assignment. Maintain a current knowledge of relevant DOT, EPA, OSHAregulations, NIMS/ICS, and NFPA Standards as they apply to emergency response activities and training. Functionsuccessfully as a team member.
