The Medical/Oncology unit at Lutheran Medical Center has 37 beds with 6 ofthose dedicated to oncology patients. This unit see mostly acute medical casesto include, but not limited to, sepsis, pulmonary, ETOH and drugwithdrawal, diabetes, etc. Our oncology patients are typically seen bynurses who have their chemo certification, but this is an excellentopportunity for med/surg RNs to get some cross training in oncology. The RN fulfills these duties to contribute to the continuity andquality of care which fosters the best interest and well-being of all patientsand their families. * Conduct and document a thorough assessment of each patients medicalstatus upon admission and throughout the patients course of treatment. * Assist in the development and implementation of an individualizedtreatment plan for each assigned patient. * Comply with evaluation, treatment and documentation guidelinesdescribed. * Complete required documentation in an accurate and timely manner. * Oversee care delivered by Licensed Practical Nurses and CertifiedNursing Assistants. * Attend and participate in clinical team conferences regarding patientprogress, problems and needs. * Act in compliance with hospital, regulatory and professionalstandards and guidelines. * Access continuing education opportunities appropriate to disciplineand responsibilities in order to maintain clinical currency. * Adheres to facility policies and procedures and participates infacility quality improvement and safety programs. * Perform other duties, as assigned.
