Job Code: 03191-69629 PRN/Per Diem PRN Position Summary: The Emergency Clinician demonstrates the ability toaccurately assess and direct the disposition of the behavioral health patientseeking psychiatric service. The Emergency Clinician has an understanding ofrisk management, triage and admission/discharge criteria. This clinicianis current on referral sources and interacts effectively with patients,peers and other staff on appropriate patient treatment options. Possesses abroad knowledge of regulatory laws as it relates to care of the mentally illand the drug/alcohol patient: understands the disease pathology associatedwith emotional/mental illnesses and addictions, and their models oftreatment. The Emergency Clinician is able to act professionally understressful conditions, by effectively setting priorities. Clinician must haveexcellent critical thinking skills.Clinician is responsible and accountable for independent behavioral healthemergency evaluations of acute psychiatric/addiction patients in emergencydepartments of HealthOne facilities. Position requires knowledge of State ofColorado mental health and addictions regulatory criteria for emergency mentalhealth holds and addictions emergency commitments and EMTALA. Position isresponsible for determination of need for clinical consultation withpsychiatrist and medical consultation with emergency department staff.Position is also responsible for coordination of disposition, care,community resources, including seven day a week, 24 hour a day triage ofbehavioral health patients. Responsible for coordination of care with stateand local governmental, nonprofit, mental health centers, practitionersand law enforcement agencies. Responsible for collection of comprehensivebiopsychosocial data, assessment/determination of lethality/risk,pre-certification of medical care with insurance/managed care entities.Position is also responsible for operation of 24-hour emergency crisistelephone line and responsible for med/surgical psychiatric/addictionevaluation/consultation backup for medical floor evaluators and on-callmedical floor psychiatrists. Additionally, when the need arises, positionwill perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Position Requirements:A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS-Healthcare provider,current State of Colorado licensure with no restrictions (LCSW, LPC,LMFT, or Psychologist) required. Colorado addictions certification (CACII or III) or other specialty certification preferred.B. Education: Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling,related field of study required. Post Masters related coursework preferred.C. Experience: Five to seven years of clinical/direct behavioralhealthcare experience with minimum of two years of emergencyevaluation/consultation experience or acute behavioral healthcare experiencerequired.D. Special Qualifications: Must have excellent written and verbalcommunication skills. Must be knowledgeable of State of Colorado, MentalHealth Services 27-65 statute and regulations as well as Alcohol and DrugAbuse Division 25-1-301 and 25-1-1106 statutes and standards and EMTALA. Mustbe knowledgeable of behavioral health emergency populations, evaluation,consultation, and process. Must have excellent interpersonal communicationskills. Must have ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Must haveability to work in high acuity and stressful environment. Must be able toapply critical thinking process. Must be able to formulate diagnosticimpressions based upon review of systems, history, symptoms, and currentpresentation. Must be able to provide crisis intervention and engage multiplesystems in diagnostic formulation and disposition.
