FREMONT COUNTY Weed Management Specialist in CANON CITY, Colorado

POSITION: Weed Management SpecialistREQUIREMENTS: Must have a Colorado Driver's License. Requires a highschool diploma/GED equivalent and a minimum 2 years experience in a job withsimilar duties. A Bachelor's degree in an applicable discipline or aminimum of 2 years progress toward a Bachelor's degree (i.e.: weedmanagement, forestry, range management, resource conservation soilscience, wildlife biology) is preferred. Experience with the use of mappingequipment and software is preferred. Experience in the operation of UTVs,off-road vehicles, and other support equipment as well as herbicideapplication is preferred.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: To be considered eligible and qualified at thegrade 29 the applicant must possess a Colorado Department of AgricultureQualified Supervisor License or similar license from a state with a reciprocalagreement with Colorado.DUTIES: Provides expertise in Integrated Weed Management (IWM) andserves as a source of communication with Bureau of Land Management (BLM)in southern Colorado. Performs seasonal field duties, applying IWMpractices, associated with noxious weed management in Fremont andsurrounding counties. Prepares daily records, interfaces with a variety oflocal, state, and regulatory agencies; provides landowner assistance;and may prepare maps and provide input to grant writing and reporting process.Applies herbicides, provides plant identification services, operateswithin State laws and/or regulations and reclamation standards, andperforms daily record-keeping. Maintains a safe working environment includingpracticing safe workplace procedures and wearing all required protectiveequipment. Performs field operations including sprayer calibration, mixingof herbicides, UTV operation, herbicide application, and equipmentrepairs in the field. Performs basic mapping duties using GPS equipment.Maintains daily records of biological, cultural, mechanical, andchemical management methods performed; equipment calibrations; sitemonitoring; and all other required permits and documentation. Maintainsworking relationships with a variety of local, state, and federal agencies(including BLM, NRCS, Conservation Districts, Cooperative WeedManagement Areas, and neighboring counties). Communicates verbally and inwriting with landowners and outside agencies. May participate in grantwriting and reporting for the County or region (UACWMA). Performs weedmanagement duties independently with limited supervision as well as in a teamenvironment.
