Familiarity with EPA methods is required.Must able to obtain a Public Trust Certificate upon hire.Responsibilities/Qualification(General) Responsible for planning, organizing and conducting scientificprojects or phases of projects involving design and development of new orimproved product and/or processes. Defines and conducts moderately complexscientific measurements and experiments. Records and evaluates data. Developsmodels describing technical phenomena; evaluates available analytical modelsfor application to specific areas of analyses. Performs moderately complexanalysis and trouble-shooting. Responsible for the setup, assembly, use,maintenance, and calibration of equipment (specifically massspectrometer) and processes. Interacts with sponsor staff responsible formonitoring projects. Reviews progress and defines project priorities,schedules and objectives. Develops and maintains frequent contacts withcustomeAssists in identifying opportunities for new program initiatives and follow-ontasking for current projects and participates in proposal efforts. Preparesand assists others in the development of status reports, letters,technical memoranda, contact reports, technical analyses or other outputsneeded. Prepares and provides formal briefings to staff and customers andparticipates in technical discussions at project review sessions and innegotiations with the customer.(Site Specific) - Determines the physical and chemical properties ofenvironmental samples using quantitative and qualitative analyses inphysical, organic, or inorganic chemistry. Performs a variety of chemicaltests and is knowledgeable of instrumental techniques. Screens and logs insamples, prepares samples for laboratory analysis, maintains equipment,orders supplies, and assists chemists when requested. Participates inplanning & strategy meetings. Suggests modifications to existing protocols& standing operating procedures, equipment, processes or techniques.Participates in evaluation process to include set up, operation &monitoring of equip & apparatus, & more complex experimental proceduresinvolving novel samples. Assists with lab maintenance.Suggests new equip, summarizes & records data in official notebooks,orders supplies & maintains a safe working environment. Performs a varietyof tasks. Works under minimal supervision and reports to a Supervisor/LeadChemist.
