_Position Summary_

Interprets provider orders and prescriptions, compounds and dispenses medications within regulatory guidelines and professional standards. Consults with patients and others as required regarding use of medications and potential drug interactions. Provides drug information to patients, health care workers and others as necessary. Ability to provide oversight and supervision of pharmacy technicians and other supporting staff including directing work flow and assurance of completion of duties. Demonstrate clinical expertise in area of practice.

_Minimum Education Requirements_

  • Bachelor’s Science or Pharm D required

_Minimum Experience Requirements_

  • 1-year hospital experience strongly preferred PGY-1 or BCPS preferred May be required to be on-call in certain situations.

_License/Certifications_

  • Active Pharmacist license in the state you are practicing

  • ACLS Preferred

_Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )_

  • Interprets prescription and medication orders completely and accurately and completes the necessary steps for clarification and validation for safe and effective patient care in compliance with state/federal rules and regulations.*

  • Demonstrates professional judgment in advising and counseling patients and healthcare team.*

  • Monitors drug utilization information and detects potential drug interactions, overlaps, over and under dosing and other unique situations.*

Inpatient Setting

  • Participates in Code Blue and other emergency situations to ensure adequate drug supply and appropriate drug use.*

  • Oversight and supervision of pharmacy technicians and other supporting staff including directing work flow and assurance of completion of duties.*

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to safe and accurate compounding meeting all current regulatory and record keeping requirements.*

  • Maintains accurate and complete records and files, as prescribed by law, of all dispensing transactions of legend and controlled drugs, including wholesale transactions. Is competent and efficient using department specific methods in maintaining these records.*

  • Demonstrates an acceptable level of speed and accuracy as relates to routine processing functions.*

  • Interacts with the public, caregivers, associates and other customers in a positive and courteous manner.*

  • Communicates clearly and completely all special situations, problems or instructions in order to facilitate appropriate resolutions.*

  • Completes continuing education as required by the state board.*

  • Attains professional growth by attending or participating in maintaining continuing education as required by state boards. Additional professional growth encouraged.*

Ambulatory

  • Demonstrates consistent accuracy with cash register transactions and a familiarity with billing functions.*

  • Exercises a reasonable level of business skills as regards customer relations; shows ability to independently make sound business decisions that encourage customer patronage.*

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill regarding the process of purchasing and procurement and inventory management.*

  • Follows department guidelines for pricing supplies for sale to customers.*

_Physical Requirements_

  • Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly
