Read onto learn more!Position OverviewThe Production Department Manager is responsible for the overall operation ofits department consistent with cost, profit and production goals. It isresponsible for the training and development of its employees.Principal Duties / ResponsibilitiesDevelops methods and assists in its implementation to achieve plans and goalsof the department.Manages the production operation of multiple departments/multiple shifts.Manages the activity of a group of employees and motivates for maximumproductivity.Identifies, researches, and resolves various problems and opportunities.Evaluates performance of individuals and various programs.Coaches and counsels employees.Manages activities consistent with all UFP policies, procedures, andapplicable law.Communicates to employees and other management members as required.Manages cost and profitability of the department.Manages department inventoryLeads employees in continuous improvement and safety initiatives.Prepares reports and maintains records as required.Participates in Safety Committee and insures that department is in compliancewith established safety standards.Performs other duties as required.If assigned to Treating Department, performs duties consistent withhazardous material handling procedures and practices.May drive a forklift to assist moving material to and from the production areaPerforms other duties as required.QualificationsKnowledgePost high school education is requiredMinimum 3 to 5 years of experience in manufacturing; 1 to 3 years ofexperience managing people.Working knowledge of production reporting and production schedulingWorking knowledge of excel, word, outlook and other business software.Basic knowledge on lumber math, lumber grades and species.Preferred understanding on company policies, practices and procedures.Successfully complete Forklift Driver licensing processSkills and abilitiesDemonstrates ability to handle responsibility and be accountable foractions/decisionsAbility to recognize safe vs. unsafe working conditionsAbility to clearly communicate directions and expectationsAbility to plan, and organize the work of others, determine priorities,meet deadlines and work under pressure and stress.Ability to prioritize tasks and act decisively when conditions changeAbility to identify problems and find viable solutionsAbility to understand and use basic math and numbers, and to use acomputer, calculator, and telephone.Ability to understand basic verbal and written instructions in English;ability read and write basic EnglishAbility to communicate with management regarding people, products andequipmentAbility to multitask and pay attention to detailAbility to manage personnel and address staffing needs, and to organize thework of others.Ability to be mobile in the work environmentAbility to pass a drug testAbility to work hours mandated by managementConductSafety conscious and strong supervisory and interpersonal skillsTeam player and goal orientedLeads by example and has a positive attitudeParticipates in Safety and CI programsLooks for ways to improve productivity and department resultsPunctual and reliableUniversal Forest Products and its subsidiaries and affiliates are equalopportunity employers.
